THE VICE-PRESIDENT OF VFU "CHERNORIZETS HRABER" PARTICIPATED IN THE FORUM DEDICATED TO THE EDUCATION OF UKRAINIAN REFUGEES

14 December 2023

A forum on the topic "The Response of the Bulgarian Education System to the Flood of Ukrainian Refugees" was held in Varna on the initiative of the Association of Bulgarian Black Sea Municipalities (ABBSM) and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. The experts commented on the approaches and challenges for the system.

VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" was represented by Yani Yanev - vice president of the university. The regional governor of Varna, Prof. Andriana Andreeva, Norbert Beckman-Dirkes, director of the Konrad Adenauer Bulgaria Foundation, Atanas Stoilov, chairman of the board of ABBSM, representatives of higher schools and teachers took part in the meeting.

Since 2016, the European Commission has supported EU countries' efforts to integrate migrants into their education and training systems - from early childhood education to higher education.

Current data indicate that about 8,000 Ukrainian refugees currently live in Varna, 5,000 of whom are staying, working and paying rent.

The project coordinator of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Zlatozara Stoilova, said that in 2024, the education will remain one of the highlights of the organization's work. The Foundation, in partnership with the Institute for Economic Policies, plans to implement a large-scale study on the future needs for the recovery of the economy of Ukraine. It is expected to be presented by the end of February.
