THE WORLD POETRY DAY WAS CELEBRATED WITH A LITERARY SALON

The Russian Center at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" initiated "Literary Salon" dedicated to the World Poetry Day. The event was held on March 21 - the day of the spring equinox and a symbol of the renewal of nature and the creative nature of the human spirit.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dimitar Marinov acquainted the foreign students from the preparatory course with the history of the World Poetry Day and read an excerpt from the message of UNESCO: "Celebrated annually on March 21, the World Poetry Day, celebrates one of the most valuable forms of cultural and linguistic expression and identity. Poetry has always been an integral part of human history. It is an expression of our humanity, shared values, and turns the simplest verse into a powerful catalyst for dialogue and peace. World Poetry Day is an occasion to honor poets, to revive the tradition of reading, to increase interest in the word, in writing and teaching poetry; it promotes convergence with other arts - theater, dance, music and painting and ensures their wider presence in the media. Poetry continues to unite people from all continents. Join the celebration! "

Favorite works in different languages ​​were read during the meeting. Kerim Atakan presented the poems "Good Times" by Orhan Beli and the poems «Унылая пора! Очей очарованье!» by A. S. Pushkin. "The Candle" by Bela Ahmadulina was performed by the Russian students Natalia Barilyak and Polina Gotsinets. The poem "I'm crying with tears over you, Ukraine" by Lesya Ukrainka and its translation into Bulgarian was presented by Irina Boyko from Ukraine, and Jan Kolb from Russia chose to read "Cherry" by Sergei Yesenin.

The Literary Salon concluded that poetry is a language understood by everyone in the world. Poetry unites peoples and cultures, helps people to become closer to each other.
