The XXV Summer Scientific Session of the Faculty of Law has begun

The Summer Scientific Session of the Faculty of Law has begun at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar”. The event brings together two scientific conferences with international participation – 'Law: Theory and Practice' and 'Security and Public Order – Theory and Practice'. The forum was opened by Prof. Dr. Yonko Kunchev – Dean of the Faculty of Law, who emphasized the importance of academic meetings for the developing of scientific and professional communities in the field of law and security.

Yani Yanev – Vice President of Varna Free University welcomed the participants. He expressed satisfaction with the activity of the students, young and established researchers, and wished them fruitful scientific work. Within the framework of the event, Yani Yanev also honoured the best participants in the Student Legal Science Academy’2025 – an initiative that was held in the previous months with the aim of encouraging scientific activity among students from the Faculty of Law. The authors of the best reports were awarded certificates and cash prizes, and their developments will be presented in a special session within the conference.

First place was awarded to Vanessa Dragneva for the report 'Crimes against the honour, dignity and good name of citizens – insult and defamation'. Second place was for Gergana Atanasova with the topic 'Does the real right effect of the statute of limitations occur if the heir invokes an expired statute of limitations in favor of his testator after he has lost possession of the property for a period longer than 6 months?'. Third prize went to Zhanina Gicheva for the report 'Are legal entities entitled to compensation for non-pecuniary damage?'.

Prof. Dr. Petar Hristov – Rector of Varna Free University presented a plenary report on the topic 'Legal and organizational problems of the protection of the population', and Prof. Dr. Yonko Kunchev – Dean of the Faculty of Law, presented a topic dedicated to profiling in the investigation of crimes with an unknown perpetrator.

The highlight of the first day’s programme was the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” and Varna Court of Appeal. The agreement provides for joint activities in the field of education, professional training and scientific research and aims at strengthening the relationship between the academic community and the judicial system.

During the two days of the forum over 60 reports will be presented by professors, scientists, doctoral and university students from key academic institutions in the country, including Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar", the Institute of State and Law at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the University of National and World Economy, the Southwestern University "Neofit Rilski", the Veliko Tarnovo University "St. St. Cyril and Methodius", the Burgas Free University, the University of Library Science and Information Technologies, the National Military University "Vasil Levski". Representatives of the judiciary, law enforcement institutions, alumni of the Faculty of Law and young legal researchers will also take part. The international participation is represented by scientists and experts from Albania, Italy, Kazakhstan, Poland and Ukraine, who will contribute to the international character and academic value of the forum.
