Three students and young researchers from Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” were recognized for their research contributions at the
14th International Scientific Conference “Design and Construction of Buildings and Structures” – DCB 2026.
The award recipients were Vanyo Valkov, a PhD student in the Department of Building and Structural Engineering; Galina Demireva, a student in the department’s master’s programme; and Dimitar Dimitrov, a teaching assistant in the department. Vanyo Valkov received an award from Xella Bulgaria, while Dimitar Dimitrov was presented with the award of the Chamber of Engineers in Investment Design.
More than 20 students from Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar,” the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, and the Ministry of Interior Academy took part in the scientific programme. They presented papers in the fields of architecture and construction and exchanged experience with researchers and specialists from Bulgaria and abroad.
Among the other distinguished participants were Georgi Ivanov from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, who received the award of the Bulgarian Construction Chamber, and Magdalena Kostadinova from the same university, who was recognized by the Bulgarian Association for Insulation in Construction. The award of the Bulgarian Association for Construction Project Management was presented to Enrico Reputz from Lyuben Karavelov Higher School of Civil Engineering.
The other awarded students included Ivan Atanasov and Yolina Tsenkova from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, and Veselka Dimova from the Ministry of Interior Academy. Atanas Zlatarov and Vladimir Milkov from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy received awards from Xella Bulgaria, while RÖFIX recognized Aleksandar Mladenov from the same university.
The DCB 2026 programme featured 101 papers presented across three thematic sections. The forum brought together researchers and specialists from Bulgaria, India, Ireland, China, Kosovo, Nigeria, Serbia, and Syria.
The conference was organized by the Scientific and Technical Union of Construction in Bulgaria in partnership with the Faculty of Architecture at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar.” The scientific forum was held under the patronage of Iliana Iotova, President of the Republic of Bulgaria.
