Two Trainee Lawyers Choose Varna District Court for Their Mandatory Six-Month Legal Internship

12 August 2025

Two trainee lawyers chose the Varna District Court to complete their mandatory six-month legal internship in August. Bilyana Abrasheva and Hristina Ruseva are graduates in Law from Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar.”

The trainee lawyers officially assumed their positions in the presence of Judge Maria Terziyska, Deputy Chairperson and Head of the Commercial Division of the Varna District Court, Mr. Rumen Vichev, Administrative Secretary of the Court. During the ceremony, each trainee received their appointment order and internship record book.
Judge Terziyska briefly presented the work of the court, noting that it hears both first-instance cases and appellate cases arising from appeals against judicial acts of the District Courts in Varna, Devnya, and Provadiya. She explained that the Varna District Court consists of three divisions—Civil, Commercial, and Criminal—depending on the nature of the cases. Addressing the new trainees, Judge Terziyska stated: “During this six-month internship, you will have the opportunity to become acquainted with various areas of law in practice and to determine your future professional direction. The legal profession offers numerous opportunities for development and realization.”

The internship programme is divided into two stages: general and specialized. During the initial two months, the trainees will gain an overall understanding of the core functions, duties, and organizational structure of the judiciary. The remaining four months are dedicated to developing knowledge and skills in a specific field of law, selected by each trainee, under the guidance of a mentor judge with a minimum of five years’ professional experience in the position.

Upon completion of the programme, the trainees will take the qualifying examination for legal capacity, administered by the Ministry of Justice.
