Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” will host the national thematic competition “I Can Build – DELECTO”, which will open at 9:00 a.m. on April 23rd, 2026, at the university’s Academic and Sports Complex. The event will bring together students from vocational high schools specializing in construction, architecture, and geodesy across Bulgaria, as well as participants from France. It is organized by BG Alternativa with the support of the Bulgarian Construction Chamber. Hosting the competition is part of the events marking the university’s 35th anniversary and 30 years since the establishment of its Faculty of Architecture.
A total of 80 students, forming 18 teams from the cities of Veliko Tarnovo, Varna, Vratsa, Pernik, Plovdiv, Sofia, Haskovo, Stara Zagora, Yambol, and Sliven, will take part in the competition. The international presence includes two teams from Lycée Henri Gaudier-Brzeska in Saint-Jean-de-Braye, France.
The competition emphasizes practical skills, creative thinking, and modern approaches in construction. Participants will present projects in one of three thematic areas: designing a “Pavilion”-type building, concepts for preserving architectural heritage, and creating shared leisure spaces in the form of an “Installation.” The projects will be evaluated by a jury composed of representatives from industry organizations and university lecturers.
The forum encourages early professional orientation among students, fosters an environment for the exchange of ideas and best practices, and strengthens the connection between secondary and higher education in the fields of construction and architecture.
Hosting the event at Varna Free University reinforces the institution’s role as an active partner in the development of future professionals in the sector.
