Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" is among the partners of the third edition of the national educational competition "Exploring the world with GIS". The initiative is organised by Esri Bulgaria and the Ministry of Education and Science, in cooperation with nearly fifty academic, industry and media organizations in the country.
The organizers of the competition invite lecturers and students from our university to turn their knowledge and ideas into interactive projects using the ArcGIS Online platform. Each participant can develop a research project, learning resource or digital story, the only requirement being the inclusion of at least one 2D or 3D map.
The competition is open in four categories: teachers, university students, school teams and school students. The registration for participation is until 10 October 2025, and projects are submitted until 31 October 2025 to
schools@esribulgaria.com.
Cash and material prizes, training and awards are provided for the winners. For the first time, an Audience Award will also be awarded, which will be determined by online voting. All projects that meet the conditions will be presented in a virtual exhibition on the occasion of World GIS Day 2025 - the largest event in the field in our country.
“Every year, the participants – teachers, pupils and students – surprise us with their creativity, knowledge and ability to use GIS for real-life cases. The most valuable thing is that through the competition they not only learn new technology, but also discover a new way to understand and change the world around them.” – Miglena Kuzmanova, Manager of Esri Bulgaria and Chairperson of the “GIS in School” programme.
