VFU "CHERNORIZETS HRABAR" SIGNED MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE COLLEGE OF ENVIRONMENT AND DESIGN OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA, USA

VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the College of Environment and Design of the University of Georgia - the oldest public university in the United States, established in 1785.

On this occasion, Prof. Sonia Hirt, PhD - Dean of the College of Environment and Design, visited VFU and got acquainted with the work of the Faculty of Architecture. Prof. Hirt met with Prof. Galina Shamonina, PhD - Secretary General of Varna Free University and the management of the Faculty of Architecture. Issues of mutual interest related to the educational exchange of students and lecturers were identified.

Prof. Hirt is a Fulbright scholarship holder. She received her architectural education in Sofia, and holds a master's and doctoral degrees in urban and environmental planning from the University of Michigan. Prior to joining the University of Georgia, she was dean of the School of Architecture, Planning and Conservation at the University of Maryland at College Park. She was vice dean for academic affairs at the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, Virginia Tech, and a visiting lecturer at Harvard College of Design.

Sonia Hirt is the author or co-author of more than 85 scientific and professional publications with over 2,500 citations. Prof. Hirt works in co-authorship with Prof. Arch. Alexander Slaev, D.Sc. - Lecturer in the Department of Architecture and Urbanism at Varna Free University. Their article on planning, markets and pluralism has been accepted for publication in Planning Theory & Practice.

Her research is sponsored by some of the most competitive and prestigious research organizations such as the American Council of Scientific Societies, the American Councils for International Education, the American University Women's Association, the Fulbright Program, the Lincoln Institute, and the National Council for Eurasian and Eastern European Studies, the National Humanities Foundation and the Research Council for Social Sciences and Humanities of Canada.
