VFU "CHERNORIZETS HRABAR" UNIVERSITY WELCOMES THE THIRD NATIONAL EXHIBITION OF BULGARIAN COMICS IN THE FRAMEWORK OF "LITERATURE SPOTLIGHT"

03 Април 2024

Varna Free University welcomes the Third National Exhibition of Bulgarian comics, which takes place within the framework of "Literary Spotlight – Word, Image, Space," a project of "Pencho Slaveykov" Regional Library – Varna with the support of the National Culture Fund. VFU is a partner in the project.
The exhibition will be opened on April 12, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. in the Educational and Sports Complex.

The exhibition, which has already been arranged in the Educational and Sports Complex, presents comics by Anna Tsocheva, Alexandra Zhelyazkova, Iva Grueva, Teodora Doncheva-Tech, Irina Karaivanova, Diyana Naneva, Milena Simeonova, and Slavena Simeonova. The exposition can be viewed till April 27, 2024.

From 2:00 p.m. on the same day, a Creative Illustration Workshop will be held, conducted by the Bulgarian artist and illustrator Kapka Kaneva. The theme of the workshop is "Texture and Space in Illustration" and will explore the relationship between comics, illustration and spaces, as well as their interaction with literature. Kapka Kaneva works in the fields of paper sculpture, illustration, and book design.

The literary spotlight sheds light on the written word and presents the text in its cultural, social and philosophical multi-layeredness. It also gives new life to the text through the possibilities of the various visual arts that interpret, adapt or supplement it as a newly completed artwork. The programme focuses on comics, illustration, and spaces, as well as on their interaction with literature in three thematic modules – "Literature and Comics," "Literature and Illustration," "Literature and Space." Nineteen established artists – writers and visual artists – will present key pieces from their oeuvre and introduce the audience to the peculiarities of their arts. The main highlights are the collaboration between writers and visual artists, as well as the variety of contemporary genres and forms in literature.
