Varna Free University receives two award nominations

Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” has received two nominations for the Varna award in the field of higher education. The nominations go to: a collective award nomination for a project team led by Prof. D.Sc. Anna Nedyalkova – President of VFU “Chernorizets Hrabar” and Captain (Navy) Prof. D.Sc. Boyan Mednikarov – Commandant of N.Y. Vaptsarov Naval Academy, for the establishment of the International Economy, Business and Politics Alliance; an individual award nomination for Prof. Lyuben Sivrev, PhD, Arch. for his research and teaching achievements, and for his series of monographs.

The team which developed and established the first in Bulgaria International Economy, Business and Politics Alliance has been nominated within the Social Sciences research area. The Alliance provides an environment for cooperation among its members in order to promote the exchange and interaction between their students, faculty and administrative staff, enables mutual access to information and educational resources for students, PhD students, specialization students and lecturers of the member-organizations, provides methodological support and enhances pedagogical skills to improve the curricula quality of higher education schools. It also provides a strategic platform for joint programmes within the framework of education, research and innovation, develops interaction and joint programmes with associate members. This innovative form of academic collaboration promotes the exchange of ideas, in support of the best practices in academic management and leadership, and provides a forum for strategic discussions between the management bodies of the member-schools concerning educational policy and practice.

Amongst the first initiatives of the Alliance is the start of the new Master programme Ship Brokerage, which will be taught by faculty members from both institutions. Alongside the specialized competences in ship brokerage, the programme aims to equip students with compound knowledge of the global environment, the mechanisms driving the world economy, the characteristics and driving forces of globalization and international trade, as well as with their consequences for the management of trade flows and logistics.

The initiative of the two higher education schools is open to anyone who shares its vision and mission. It is fully in line with the trends in the education market, and with the new strategy of the European Commission European Higher Education in the World, which was launched on 11th July 2013, as well as with the aspirations of academic institutions to be innovative, competitive and socially responsible subjects of the civil society.

The nomination within the Technical Sciences research area goes to Prof. Lyuben Sivrev, PhD, Arch. for his research and teaching achievements, and for his series of monographs in the field of public service in industrial enterprises and territories.

In the period between May 2013 and March 2014 Prof. Sivrev published his monographs entitled Industrial and Transport Buildings and Complexes. Module 1, Industrial and Transport Buildings and Complexes. Module 2 and Flexible and Energy-Saving Sanitary and Hygienic Units at Industrial Enterprises. The fifth monograph of the series – Kitchen Units at Industrial Enterprises and Territories is due in May 2014.
