"WOMAN OF THE YEAR" AWARD WAS GIVEN TO A VFU TEACHER

 “This is not an award for me. This is a moment of rethinking, awareness and gratitude!” – Assoc. Prof. Ofelia Kaneva, PhD shared in a post on her social media page after being awarded the title of “Woman of the Year” in the Society category by GRAZIA magazine.

In her emotional message, she reveals that for a long time she felt like Don Quixote – alone in a battle for good, and today she perceives herself as King Arthur – surrounded by valiant people who put the mission above themselves and work for a better future. “The army of do-gooders is real, alive, motivated and capable of changing lives. It changes mine, too. Every day,” she writes.

Ofelia Kaneva is a doctor of educational administration, sociologist and public figure, lecturer at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar”. She is a former chairwoman of the State Agency for Child Protection and one of the most active defenders of the rights of people with disabilities and vulnerable communities in our country.

For the 20th time in a row, the GRAZIA magazine team has focused the spotlight on those women who not only achieve success, but also change the environment around them. Women who inspire with their actions, voice and talent – ​​daily and persistently.

"Woman of the Year" is a tradition that has been recognising the strength, vision and commitment of women who make us believe in change for two decades. In 2025, well-deserved honour was once again paid to individuals who have left a bright mark in various fields - from art to entrepreneurship, from social causes to digital influence.

The recognition of Assoc. Prof. Ofelia Kaneva, PhD is a testament to her tireless work and leadership, and to the inspiration she brings to her students, colleagues and followers - that good wins.
