Cor. Mem. Prof. Arch. Atanas Kovachev, D.Sc. - Head of the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies at Varna Free University was conferred on the title of Honorary Professor of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar". The award was presented to him by the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Varna Free University, Prof. Anna Nedyalkova, D.Sc. by decision of the Academic Council, for a significant contribution to the development of the university, for popularising and strengthening its image and in connection with his 70th anniversary.

International teams of Bulgarian and Romanian students of architecture, urban planning and landscape design created five concepts for the reactivation of the joint-use airport in Balchik. The competition was held in four stages. The assessment of the projects is three-component - from an architectural point of view, a landscape solution and an architectural solution. The presentation of each team is also assessed.

The Chair of the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency (NEAA) Prof. Dr. Eliza Stefanova visited Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar". During the visit, Prof. Stefanova got acquainted with the history and prospects in the development of one of the largest private universities in the country. "It is necessary to look for solutions point by point and to work together," commented Prof. Stefanova. She shared the importance of discussing good practices for improving the quality of higher education in Bulgaria.
Prof. Ph.D. Rumen Stamatov and the author team Yani Yanev and Dr. Svetlozar Popov have been nominated for this year's "Varna" Award in the field of science and higher education, category "Social sciences". The nominations were approved at yesterday's meeting of the Departmental Committee of the Municipal Council on the proposal of the Expert Committee for granting the award.
On World Book and Copyright Day – April 23, the traditional Reading Marathon was held at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar". The event was organized by the Department of Foreign Languages and Postgraduate Qualification and the University Library. This year, the Reading day at Varna Free University was dedicated to round anniversaries related to the birth of four world-famous authors of literary art: William Shakespeare – 460 years, Anatole France – 180 years, Alexander Pushkin – 225 years, Luís de Camões – 500 years, as well as Nikolay Haytov, an author popular in Bulgarian literature, 105 years.
Polina Galinova – a student majoring in Psychology at Varna Free University, won the first place at the European Kickboxing Cup that took place yesterday in Plovdiv. In the final, Polina defeated the competitor from Hungary, in the category up to 60 kg, style K-1.
Blagovest Todorov, a fourth-year student majoring in Crime prevention and public order protection, won a gold medal in the backstroke event at the weekend swimming tournament, part of the XXIV Varna Universiade. Blagovest was also third in the freestyle.
